Becky Reyes: Music & Lyrics

Threads of Steel

(Becky Reyes)
1994
Words and Music - Becky Reyes
This is just a scratch track and doesn't represent the final version that will be on our CD. When I was but a young lass of 30, I was told by a sociology professor from Brockport that I was too old to be in the music business. I wonder what he would think about me kick-starting my career at 50! Ah heck, I've never been one for convention of any kind .
Threads of Steel

They have said, “You’re too old”
They have said, “You’re in the way”
They have said, “You’re too bold”
They have said, “You’re passé”
They have said, “You’re too blue”
They have said, “You’re too green”
They have said, “You’re too brown”
They have said, “You’re too gray”

Well, let me tell you
These are not gray hairs
These are not gray hairs on my head
They are threads of steel
They are threads of steel

They can take what they want
Try to take what they lack
Let them say what the want
Let it roll off my back
They can mess with my head
They can wound and hit
They can criticize
They can make me spit

You’re too old - You’re passé
You’re too green - You’re too gray
