The Center for Natural Knowing

Who are these people?

The folks on this page are people I know, musicians, friends, galleries, shops, restaurants. As you'll notice, occasionally I'll slip in an impromptu food review. I can't help it. I love food. I'm the sensual, artistic, earth-mama type...

Musicians, Entertainers, Artists/Technicians

Scott Muhleman
This is Scott's very own website! We're still working out the details but it's up and running.
Train Wreck
Train Wreck won the 2007 Southern Arizona Blues Heritage Foundation Blues Challenge, and they did it playing all original music! They will be playing at the 2007 SABHF Blues and Heritage Festival in Reid Park on October 21, then it's off to Memphis, Tennessee on January 31st to compete at the International Blues Challenge. They're doing a bit of fund-raising to help cover travel expenses. If you are inclined to help them out, click on the PayPal Donate button below or shoot them an email.
Lisa Bigwood
Lisa and I started singing out in public around the same time. We met at an open mic in Rochester, NY hosted by the Dady Brothers. We became fast friends and have kept in touch, encouraging each other, listening, sharing. I've included her link because I think she has an important message. Check her out.

"Lisa Bigwood’s songwriting and intense and memorable performances have taken her from life as a rural housewife and nurse and moved her to the life of a writer and musician. She brings the previous life along for the ride, a richness of experience that quickly shows its face".
Sean Beach
Sean Beach is my very talented cousin who is making his way in the theatrical lighting industry. Nepotism aside, please check out his website if you're looking for someone to enhance your productions. Whether it's a stage production or a charity benefit, when you want everything perfect, call Sean. He'll listen to your vision, and make it happen.
Linda Stout
Linda is another friend of mine from the Finger Lakes area of Western New York.

"Linda Stout is winning fans and has performed to full houses lately, and her debut CD, 'Good Luck Child,' is drawing high praise from the press, including accolodes as 'best solo CD' and 'best female singer' by The Ithaca Journal".

Linda just sent me an EP she's putting out. I'm giving it a listen. It's far out and not at all what people have come to expect, which is why I love her.
Andrea Dodge
Yet another very talented woman from the Finger Lakes area. She is one of those crazy talented folks whose songs, lyrics can grab you, touch your psyche and stay with you long after you've heard her sing. She's got this knack for triggering "little epiphanies". Please check her out.
Jon Messenger - La Roca
"Arizona singer/songwriter Jon Messenger sports an impressive list of credentials. An accomplished songwriter, with an extensive musical background, Jon¹s original Folk and Western tunes have been well received by audiences at festivals and gatherings throughout the West".

Jon and I played together in his band, La Roca, about 9 years ago. I was pregnant with Gil at the time and played right on up to about a week before I delivered! No wonder he loves to hear us sing together. Jon is now a member of my group, Hideaway and has a wonderful career as a solo artist as well.
DC Minner's Down Home Blues Club
This is the real deal here folks. DC and Selby have been touring since I don't know when. They brought Scott to Bisbee back in '85. They live in Rentiesville, OK and run a monthly blues club, run a program called Blues in the Schools (which I think Selby developed and implemented to help kids gain poise and confidence and get acquainted with a truly American form of music). They also host an annual blues festival, which is turning into a monster event. DC and Selby have mentored so many people. We are so fortunate to have them in our lives. Whether they know it or not, they have been a guiding force in our lives (Thanks, DC and Selby). Check out their site. If you love the blues, you'll love them.
myspace
I have a few songs here for those of you who have high-speed. It's some stuff I recorded for posterity. Doesn't really reflect what we're doing at our live shows, but it's my own stuff. Vocals are really stiff (what is that? you get into a studio and you're like, ugh, I forgot how to sing). But the songs are solid. They're my babies. Hope you like 'em.

Restaurants

Tubac Golf Resort
Scott and I are currently playing Saturday evenings on the patio of Stables Restaurant at beautiful Tubac Golf Resort. The restaurant offers the most tantalizing items from its four star menu. I just had the filet mignon for the first time there and I have to admit, it nearly melted in my mouth. It takes a certain ability to prepare food like this - and I've seen the folks who do the cooking - I KNOW they love what they do. Faith, our bartender on Saturday evenings mixes up some wonderful concoctions and I have to say that their bar has a really wonderful and well-rounded, well thought-out selection of fine, fine spirits. The resort itself offers breathtaking views, beautiful casitas, golf, and an array of services. Tell them I sent you... (In case of rain, we play in Stables’ smoke-free bar)
Cafe Roka
I know you love fine dining as much as I do. When you come to Bisbee, you MUST have dinner at Cafe Roka. Rod Kass is inventive and bold. The site states, "The dishes on our menu are inspired primarily by Italian, California and New Vegetarian cuisines. We use the freshest seasonal ingredients available and utilize a variety of subtly accented sauces". Rod is rather modest. His sauces are absolute heaven... And the vegetables! I was eating some asparagus and green beans the other day, and I remember thinking, even the vegetables are perfect. I think next time, I may just go vegetarian, mmm.
Bisbee Breakfast Club
This is our absolute favorite place to have breakfast in Bisbee (Lowell District). Pat and Heather have really pulled together a top-notch eatery. They have the traditional breakfasts to choose from, and great sandwiches for lunch BUT they also have original dishes that are out of this world. The other thing I really love about this place is the ambiance. It reminds me of some of the diners we frequented when we were kids. Kind of a throwback to the 50's and 60's, yet thoroughly modern, clean and bustling! Don't forget to tell 'em I sent you.

Galleries/Shops

Manos Gallery
"Manos is more than just an art gallery in Tubac, Arizona. Sure, we feature an eclectic mix of paintings, hand-crafted items and furniture to help make decorating your home a snap. But at Manos, we also know that creating the perfect living environment involves more than just hanging wall art. Old Bisbee Roasters
"We support family-owned farms and co-operatives that produce the finest tasting varieties in the coffee-growing world."

We've been drinking Seth's coffees since he started roasting. We lived next door to the roaster and I have to tell you that just the smell of the roasted coffee - which incidentally does not smell like coffee brewing, but has a distinct, toasty, aromatic smell - reminds me of those heady days when I worked and played at the Quarter Moon Coffee House. Seth chooses the beans he roasts carefully and has a knack for roasting them to perfection. We are hopelessly, willingly addicted to his coffee. "The greatest coffee in the world - bar none", says Scott. Oh, and by the way, he's doing chocolate truffles, too and let me say, they are delectable, dark, sensual, I'd better stop here folks, this is a family website...

Feeling Charitable?

St. Andrews Children's Clinic
"The mission of St. Andrew’s Children’s Clinic in Nogales, Arizona is to provide medical treatment for disabled children of indigent parents in Mexico. We provide medical services to 200-300 seriously ill or disabled children in a church not designed for medical care. This is done quickly by a veritable host of efficient volunteers with love and good humor.

Every child is given expert and compassionate care while being fed, looked after and treated with respect. The success of St. Andrew's Clinic is easy to see in the shining eyes and broad smiles of both the children and their parents. What is most amazing to us is that this all takes place in the shadow of a seven-foot high, barbed wire topped and National Guard patrolled fence."

We played the Benchmark Tournament last year when we first started working here. We didn't really know that it was a charity event, and only realized it the day of the tournament. We are playing the tournament again this year and I thought I'd find out about St. Andrews. I was deeply touched. I was born in Mexico. I was educated in Mexico. I'm honored to be involved. As I get to know more about St. Andrews, I hope to become more involved.
KBRP - Radio Free Bisbee
"KBRP is a low-power, community radio station dedicated to bringing culturally enriching programming to the Bisbee area. KBRP LP 96.1 began broadcasting on Nov. 21st 2004. It took many people many years of perseverance to achieve an FCC licensed radio station in the mountainous and rural terrain of the Mule Mountains.

KBRP is a Community-run radio station. Participant members contribute their time, energy and resources to keep Bisbee's Radio for the People on the air. Locally produced and hosted programs now comprise about 40 hours per week of the broadcast schedule and this is increasing every month. KBRP provides a community calendar and broadcasts local events, interviews and is an affiliate of Pacifica Radio and broadcasts Pacifica's Democracy Now! and This Way Out as well as special programming from their archives. Tune in to the voice of the Mule Mountains!"
Equine Voices Rescue and Sanctuary
"Equine Voices Rescue & Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 tax -exempt organization dedicated to saving Premarin (PMU) mares and foals from slaughter. We are a voice for the many equines that cannot speak for themselves, working to end horse slaughter in America.

Through education, we are confident we can enlighten the public about the horrors behind the premarin industry and horse slaughter, and be a catalyst for change so these noble animals may finally live a life without abuse, pain and suffering."
