My partner, Charlene and I have been listing places to stay, galleries, markets, all the wonderful things that make Bisbee such a great little community. We've put this little online magazine together so that when you're visiting, you can stop here first to help you plan your trip. Charlene and I are still in the process of adding to the new website. Charlene and I have been taking jaunts to Tubac and as I'm trying to introduce her to the area, I'm gleefully discovering (and re-discovering) all the cool shops, galleries, eateries and STUFF that make Tubac so special. We'll keep you posted on our progress. In the meantime, you can visit our Tubac Enclave facebook page!

These are the places I regularly play.

I'm so happy to be back at Stables Restaurant on Saturday nights again. We have been feeling the love! Your choruses of, "Welcome home" and, "It just wasn't the same without you" confirmed our belief that we belong there! To be perfectly honest, it's as if we had never left. Scott and I couldn't be happier about working at Tubac Golf Resort again. We love that little ranch so much!

It dawned on me that Scott and I play in some of the most beautiful places in Southeastern Arizona. And while we don't play that often in our hometown (I like to tell people that it's different in Bisbee - we're big fish in a little pond with a bunch of other big fish), we hope to be playing somewhere in Bisbee very soon. I have been playing Latin music at Cafe Rokaevery other Wednesday with my friend Jim Harrelson but we are taking a hiatus this summer and will be back in the mix in the fall (our last Roka gig this season is next Wednesday, 4/27). When you come to Bisbee, you MUST eat at Cafe Roka. Rod Kass has a top notch eatery. The man has a way with sauces that perfectly complement the dishes he serves. I can't wait to get back there, but in the meantime, we find ourselves playing in the most interesting places in southeastern Arizona.

POCO is an incredible little vegan eatery in Peddlers Alley on Main Street in Bisbee. It's one of those places where you can sit inside or outside and people watch, listen to good music and eat hearty, rib-sticking meals the nourish your soul as well. Kelly Galligan will schedule me during the week sometimes but what I love about POCO is that music is not the only form of entertainment. Sometimes she hosts trivia nights, or she'll make a night of more exotic fare venturing into Middle Eastern or Asian food.

Viaggio Italiano in Sonoita is where we play seasonally. First of all, as the name implies, it's Italian food, but not just any Italian food. It's home-made from family recipes. Suzanne Jenkins serves up fabulous traditional Italian fare with the freshest ingredients. Even her salads are superior! Her brunches are outstanding featuring Strata and Belgian waffles and other mouthwatering delights. Now, one would ask, "why on earth would you choose a gig so far away from everything, so far out in the sticks?" to which I would reply, "Have you ever been to Sonoita?" It's GORGEOUS out there! And it's adjacent to Elgin where most of southeast Arizona's wineries are located. Charming Patagonia is also nearby. It's surrounded by ranches and rolling hills of golden grasslands. And here's this little unassuming Italian restaurant, out in the middle of nowhere, serving the finest food and spirits. It's like heaven out there. It's a gorgeous ride from wherever you are!

On Fridays, we play at the Amado Territory SteakHouse. If you haven't been to Amado Territory Ranch, you should go! It's a beautiful little oasis that has an inn, artist studios, restaurants, a pond or two, walking paths and lush greenery. A few weeks ago, there was a blue heron hanging out at the big pond and we were thrilled. Add to the thrill the smell of Jeff's cooking wafting from his kitchen and you can't help but feel all fine and mellow inside. Chef Jeff Clock's attention to detail is evident in the meals he serves. He's SO passionate and committed that he even ages the beef he serves right there in his restaurant! One bite of melt-in-your-mouth steak and you'll taste the difference!

Wisdom's Cafe is just south of Tubac in Tumacacori. I play there every once-in-a-while and I LOVE Wisdom's! Here's why: When I walk into Wisdom's Cafe, it immediately takes me back to my childhood. The restaurant, in existence since 1935 smells like my nana's kitchen! They serve delicious, traditional border-style meals, with a few concessions to burgers and such, but the REAL draw to Wisdom's is the family atmosphere. Cliff and Celeste are the THIRD generation of Wisdoms running that little restaurant and they're doing a wonderful job. Wisdom's will never lose it's ancestral charm as long as the Wisdom family owns that little gem. And, as we're all border brats from southeastern Arizona, they just feel like family to me!

Green Valley Farmers Market is a HUGE farmer's market! It covers most of the Green Valley Mall (at the Esperanza exit. You can see it from I19. You can't miss it). They have artisans from all over and all walks of life. You can visit every week for MONTHS before you take it all in! And the produce? So obviously superior. Scott and I met Annie (the iron woman who organized the market) and instantly "got" what she is all about. The feeling of camaraderie among the vendors is palpable. People walk around with smiles all the time. Quite a few of the folks who come here, vendors and patrons alike know each other and greet each other warmly. Annie's crew works really hard at getting this together every week, but NOBODY works harder than Annie!

Another occasional gig is playing at La Entrada de Tubac. We play right in the middle of La Entrada, amidst the galleries and shops and it gives me an opportunity to do something I truly love while doing my job (which I also truly love), PEOPLE WATCH! I have to confess, it secretly gives me a thrill when everyone is milling about, going from shop to shop, and I see someone stop just to hear the song I'm playing. Spontaneous rapport. It's just too cool.

<a title="Click here to visit Stables Ranch Grille online! We came to Stables in February, 2006. We were hired there to entertain folks who were waiting for a table in the restaurant and in 4 short years, we (that's all of us - the resort staff, Scott and I andYOU) turned it into a FABULOUS scene. How many times did we hang out on that little magical patio and watch the moon rise over the cottonwoods? And the thing about Stables is that it's not just one thing. It's the combination of elements that come together to make for a perfect dining experience. The amazing food (Chef John Wooters is back - we love you John!), the fine spirits, the incredible view of the Santa Rita mountains over the cottonwoods on the Santa Cruz River, the excellent music and most importantly, THE GOOD COMPANY WE KEEP! Oh, and the fire on crisp nights, the nesting owls, the moon, the stars, just EVERYTHING! We are so grateful to be back.

We hope you'll join us at any one of these places. Playing music for you is our job, but you MUST know that it is one of our greatest pleasures. We are honored to play each of these venues and we are certainly blessed to have such loyal, fun and welcoming fans. Actually, the word "fans" doesn't feel quite right. How about family?

Much love to you,

-Becky
